Welcome to a New Year...

Here's what's Happening in our Classroom... (and some pics from our amazing Christmas Party, THANKS TO ALL THE PARENTS who participated in our Christmas around the world and for the wonderful Gingerbread houses hand made by Mrs. Trapnell, the party was a hit)

First of all WELCOME BACK, it is always hard to get back in the swing of things after family fun and the Holiday Season, we will gradually get back into the swing of things.

THINGS TO BE AWARE OF:
Friday your students will need to be ready with their hand made instrument and the write up about it to share with the class, this will end our unit on Sound.

ALSO, on Friday morning we will be going to our annual 6th grade ice skating field trip at Peaks Ice Arena in Provo. Any parent who is willing to get on the ice is welcome to come, there isn't a charge. The Arena appreciates the adult supervision for safety reasons. You will just need to meet us there and drive yourself back. We should be leaving soon after the first bell and arriving at Peaks around 9:30 or so. Please email me if you are interested in attending and skating with the kids. IT IS REALLY FUN TO BE OUT THERE WITH THEM!!!

LITERACY:

We will continue with the Lightning thief and our spelling/vocab routines as usual. We will be adding some more 6 traits in our writing to help us improve on our stories.

SCIENCE:

WE finished up Science with Mr. Groneman and became experts on the Universe and Solar System. Mrs. Bird visited our class today and began our Seasons Unit. She will be teaching us for the next 7 weeks.

SOCIAL STUDIES:

We are just about finished with our Unit on Greek culture and will move on to the Roman era. We will enjoy a day of Greek Olympics before moving on...

MATH:

Our class took an end process assessment on adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers by creating Fraction Flower works of art. The are in the main hall around the corner of our classroom...The turned out amazing! What clever and wonderful artists I have in my classroom! Today we moved on to multiplying fractions. We wrote the steps to multiplying in our math journals and next we will discover why you invert and multiply when dividing fractions.
