Fall is Here

Lots to learn... (And as the weather gets colder please send a jacket to school with your student, they will be going outside during lunch and recess).

Science:
We learned, researched and shared all sorts of microorganisms in the world around us, we looked at Pond Life through a Microscope and are doing weekly observations on our moldy bread and decomposing chambers....Things are really getting gross in here!

Math:
Your students will be finishing up their unit on Exponents, Orders of Operation and Algebraic Equations. Please let me know if any of your students are struggling. I am more than willing to help during lunch or before or after school. I feel good about their thinking at this point!

Literacy:
We learned about Monitoring for Meaning while reading and how to turn a hard word or paragraph in into something that "Clicks". We are enjoying are writing time and already will be sharing our first Authors Chair this week. Guided Reading is going along splendidly, ask your student about the book they are reading for their group. They are all fabulous books! Here are some suggested questions to ask about reading. Who are your favorite characters and why, what is the problem in the story, what is the setting like, do you like the book so far, what about the style of the Author do you like?

Social Studies:
We finished up our unit on the first civilizations, the summarians, assyrians, babylonians and Mesopotamia. Your student had to feel a ticket out to leave Mesopotamia and Enter Egypt. We are also included our special ed 6th graders in our social studies lessons, I am impressed with how your children know how to include others! Thanks for all you do as parents. For your support and all you teach your kids!
