Let me just say how much I am enjoying teaching these awesome kids! They are hard working, kind and very respectful!
Literacy:
We are now on Unit 4 in Spelling and have learned 15 new vocabulary words. WE enjoyed playing charades with our vocabulary. We have been learning about metacognition for reading (thinking about your thinking while your reading) and alliteration for writing. We shared some awesome alliteration tongue twisters that we wrote for our 2nd grade buddies. This week will work on more ideas for writing.
NOTE: Our 2nd grade buddies rewarded us with a fun game of mingle. I was so impressed with how your children treated their buddies. It made my day!
Science:
We have curiously been awaiting our mold to grow on our bread experiments, and they are looking grossly awesome! We built our decomposing chambers to watch how microorganisms are not just harmful but also helpful in our environment. We will do research on "yucky" things this week and look under the microscope and into pond water.
Social Studies:
We just finished learning about Mesopotamia, how they began there first civilizations by using the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, building levees and using canals. Students made teaching posters through research and taught each other about City/States, Cuneiform writing and religious structure of the time. We will learn how to write on clay and make our own cuneiform.
Math:
WOW...we just finished up a half of unit on place, value, exponents and powers of 10. Your students did fabulous on the end assessment. We are moving on to Algebra so hold on tight. We will begin by finding missing treasures and then applying it to missing variables. We will also learn about inverse operations
and two step equations.
