WE enjoyed learning about Edward Munch and his famous artwork the "SCREAM". It has been the most infamous piece of work as it has been stolen the most and then recovered. Your students learned how to ask questions about art and look at the colors and lines to create mood. Then they were challenged to create their own work and write a short poem or story about their piece. Come enjoy them in our hall at SEP'S. What talented students I have!!!
Literacy: We continue to write and read. We have started new books in guided reading groups, we have a class of high readers. We have been writing about our personal scream pictures as well as interpreting other works of art and write stories about them. These stories will be turned into a shadow puppet show and performed for the class.
Science: We finished our unit on light and are now enjoying Mr. Groneman in our classroom while he teaches us about our solar system and the Universe.
Social Studies: We had our first introductory lesson to Greece. Look for some expository writing homework coming. Each student will be assigned a character or item from Greek mythology to research and then share with the class in preparation to read our shared reading, "The lightning Thief".
Math: Last week we finished unit 2 on decimals. We did do a little re-teaching and re-testing to make sure we are understanding the concepts. Allow your child at home to add, subtract, multiply decimals as much as possible. Have them divide costs at the store or multiply purchases so they can get some applicable practice. We will begin Unit 3 on factors, multiples, divisibility rules and prime factors. Lots to know in 6th grade math!
Once again, what an enjoyable class we have, I love them all! Let me know if you ever have any concerns, questions or needs. Thanks!
